OLEAN, NY - The Alfred University men's tennis team opened the Empire 8 portion of their 2023 schedule with a 9-0 loss to Nazareth College.
Walker Waldon (Wellsville, NY/Wellsville) and
Matthew Bittel (Wellsville, NY/Wellsville) scored a team-high three points from No. 1 doubles for the Saxons (2-4, 0-1 Empire 8). Waldon later competed well from No. 3 singles, forcing a tiebreak during his first respective set.
Mike Roberts (Alfred Station, NY/Alfred-Almond) fought hard in his second set from No. 1 singles, earning two points.
"No better way to open E8 competition than by playing against the defending champs," Head Coach
Jordan Crouch said. "They're a great test for us and a chance for us to learn and grow. There was a lot of great stuff today, despite what the score might indicate. I'm really proud of Walker, Bittel, and Bill for how hard they worked."
Alfred University will next travel to compete against St. John Fisher University on Saturday at 2:00 PM.
