WILLIAMSPORT, PA – The Alfred University men's tennis team came up short in a 6-3 loss to Lycoming College on Wednesday afternoon from Brandon Park.
Mike Roberts (Alfred Station, NY/Alfred-Almond) and Matthew Hibbert (Oswego, NY/Oswego) claimed a win from the No. 2 spot in doubles action, as they beat Lycoming 8-4. Mark Ungurian (Chornomorsk, Ukraine/School #6) and Bill Tran (Hanoi, Vietnam/Grace Christian) also had a victory from the No. 3 spot in doubles play after they were able to nudge out the Warriors in the final set to win 8-7.
Unfortunately, after the Saxons took the early lead in doubles play, they were unable to keep the momentum going into singles. Ungurian was the lone Saxon to win in singles play from the No. 3 spot, winning back-to-back sets.
Alfred University will next return home for their first Empire 8 matchup against Nazareth College on Friday, March 24th at 4 PM from the William T. Brown Tennis Courts.
