Men's Lacrosse Drops Road Matchup to SUNY Geneseo

GENESEO, NY - The Alfred University men's lacrosse team found the back of the net in all four quarters but were outscored in an 18-6 loss to SUNY Geneseo on Wednesday from the Geneseo College Stadium.

The Saxons (4-3, 0-0 Empire 8) finished the game with 29 shots, while forcing the Knights (5-3, 0-0 SUNYAC) to 15 turnovers.

Kevin Matson (Chenango Bridge, NY/Chenango Forks) scored a team-high two goals from eight shots on goal. Paul Forte (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) totaled two points from one goal and one assist. Hunter Cupp (Bath, NY/Haverling) picked up a team-high four ground balls for AU.

"Our guys did a great job for the most part," Head Coach Jason Lockner said. "Unfortunately, we had a few key injuries that changed the frame of the game in the third."

Alfred University set the tone early in the first quarter, as a pass from Peter Colburn (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford) to Forte got the Saxons on the scoreboard. The Knights responded with two goals of their own before going into the second quarter with a 2-1 lead. Matson opened scoring for AU in the second quarter with a man-up goal to cut the deficit. Both Matson and Connor DiDomineck (Bath, NY/Haverling) scored before halftime, but Alfred University still trailed 6-4. Josh Hauman (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) and Drew Cartwright (Elmira, NY/Elmira) were the lone Saxons to score in the second half, as SUNY Geneseo was able to pull away with the win.

"We will be ready for Saturday," Lockner said. "We've been talking about it. Our team defense is playing really well right now and we will get a few guys off the injured list."

Alfred University will next open Empire 8 competition with a road matchup against Hartwick College on Saturday at 1:00 PM.
