Alfred University set the tone early in the first quarter, as a pass from
Peter Colburn (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford) to Forte got the Saxons on the scoreboard. The Knights responded with two goals of their own before going into the second quarter with a 2-1 lead. Matson opened scoring for AU in the second quarter with a man-up goal to cut the deficit. Both Matson and
Connor DiDomineck (Bath, NY/Haverling) scored before halftime, but Alfred University still trailed 6-4.
Josh Hauman (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) and
Drew Cartwright (Elmira, NY/Elmira) were the lone Saxons to score in the second half, as SUNY Geneseo was able to pull away with the win.
"We will be ready for Saturday," Lockner said. "We've been talking about it. Our team defense is playing really well right now and we will get a few guys off the injured list."
Alfred University will next open Empire 8 competition with a road matchup against Hartwick College on Saturday at 1:00 PM.
