ERIE, PA – The Alfred University men's tennis team resumed their season with a 9-0 loss to Penn State Behrend on Saturday afternoon from the Westwood Racquet Club.
"I was excited to get back out there with the guys," Head Coach Jordan Crouch said. "It was fun to compete again. Behrend is a good squad and we certainly can learn a little bit from them today. We got a lot of notes from today's match that we are going to apply to our training. We will be back better than ever over break!"
Matthew Hibbert (Oswego, NY/Oswego) and Mark Ungurian (Chornomorsk, Ukraine/School #6) competed from the No. 2 spot in doubles action, scoring two points in their respective set. In singles play, Ungurian had a competitive effort from the No. 3 position, picking up three points in the second set for AU. Mike Roberts (Alfred Station, NY/Alfred-Almond) also scored two points in the second set from No. 1 in singles.
Alfred University will next play Mary Baldwin University on Tuesday, March 7th in Hilton Head, SC as part of the team's spring break tournament.
