Men's Basketball Drops Road Game to Misericordia

DALLAS, PA – The Alfred University men's basketball team put up a competitive effort as part of an 84-69 loss to Misericordia University on Wednesday from the Anderson Sports-Health Center.

The Saxons (1-2, 0-0 Empire 8) shot the ball well from deep against the Cougars (3-0, 0-0 MAC), hitting 45.8 percent from beyond the arc.

Casey Curran (Allegany, NY/Allegany-Limestone) led Alfred University with a team-high 18 points to go with three rebounds. Gabe Eldaye (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) finished the game with 10 points and a team-high seven boards. Adam Enders (Belfast, NY/Belfast) added 12 points for AU.

"Obviously we're disappointed with the loss," Erich Kaempffe said. "I thought we played hard collectively, which is a good sign. We'll try and fix some stuff to get ready for Saturday."

The combined efforts of Casey and Tyler Curran (Allegany, NY/Allegany-Limestone) got the Saxons off to an opening 5-0 lead to begin the game. An additional three-point shot from Casey had Alfred University leading by as many as 6 points. The Saxons led for the first eight minutes of action before the Cougars tied the game with just under 12 minutes remaining in the first half. AU played from behind for the rest of the half, but back-to-back shots from beyond the arc by Oscar Wolter (Munich, Germany/Lycee Jean Renoir) and Amoi Charles (Elmont, NY/H. Frank Casey) in the final two minutes of play left them trailing 38-34 going into the break.

The first four successful shots for the Saxons to open the second half came from three-point territory. A deep shot from Eldaye tied the game with under 16 minutes remaining. The Cougars responded with a 13-0 run to leave the Saxons trailing by 16 points with roughly seven minutes to play. Alfred University hit some late shots, but Misericordia was able to hold on for the win.

Alfred University will next travel to play Buffalo State College on Saturday at 4:00 PM.
