YORK, PA – The Alfred University women's volleyball team lost two non-conference matches on the road during the York College of Pennsylvania Tri-Match on Saturday afternoon.
The Saxons (3-5, 0-0 Empire 8) started against Penn State Behrend, dropping in three sets with scores of 15-25, 7-25 and 14-25. They then played the hosts, winning the first set but losing the three to follow, 25-23, 16-25, 18-25 and 20-25.
Casey Grange (Ithaca, NY/Ithaca) led the Saxons on the day with 21.0 points, including a collegiate career-high of 18.0 in the nightcap. She set a new standard for herself with 17 kills in the match and added two block assists. Defensively, she totaled nine digs on the day.
Jamie Chun (Hilo, HI/Hilo) added a double-digit scoring effort against York. She had 10 kills in the match, adding six digs.
Darian Ortiz (Santa Fe, NM/St. Michael's) led AU on defense with 24 digs.
The Saxons will next open Empire 8 play with a road trip to Houghton University on Friday, September 30 for a 7:00pm first serve.
