ALFRED, NY – Alfred University's Macy Youngberg (Falconer, NY/Falconer Central) was selected as the Empire 8 Women's Tennis Player of the Week on Monday afternoon, following an official announcement from Associate Commissioner, Joe Venniro.
 
Six matches, six wins for Youngberg on the week as she helped AU continue its win streak, upping their season to a 6-0 start for the first time since the 2004 season. She teamed with Alina Zabihailo (Kyiv, Ukraine/Educational Complex #143) at No. 1 doubles for the week, defeating Brockport, 8-1, Penn State Behrend, 8-4 and Utica University, 8-5. Youngberg played at No. 4 singles, winning at Brockport, 6-0, 6-2 against the same player her and Zabihailo defeated in doubles. She then won in three sets against Penn State Behrend, 6-3, 2-6, 6-4. Youngberg completed her undefeated week with a clean sweep over Utica's player, 6-0, 6-0.
 
Youngberg joins Zabihailo as the second Saxon in a row to win the E8 Women's Tennis Player of the Week recognition. It's her first time earning the accolade and her first time being named a Saxon of the Week, garnering the award on Monday as well, alongside women's soccer's Nyah Solly (Colden, NY/Springville-Griffith Institute). Youngberg was joined in the Empire 8 Weekly Awards on Monday by Mari Jablonski (Monticello, GA/Jasper County), earning Women's Cross Country Co-Runner of the Week.
 
Youngberg, Zabihailo and the rest of the women's tennis team will next travel to SUNY Cortland for their final non-conference match of the fall season on Thursday, September 22 at 4:00pm.
