ALFRED, NY – Alfred University's
Mari Jablonski (Monticello, GA/Jasper County) was selected as the Empire 8 Women's Cross Country Co-Runner of the Week on Monday afternoon, following an official announcement from Associate Commissioner,
Joe Venniro.
It is the first time that a Saxon, either women's or men's, has been selected on the Empire 8 Weekly Awards for cross country. The Alfred University women's program has had three since becoming an Empire 8 member and all three were in the 2014 season with
Mary Baughman.
Jablonski had the top finish at the Behrend Invitational for the Saxons. She finished in 10
th place scoring-wise and 12
th overall on Friday. Jablonski ran a personal best time at Penn State Behrend's course, running a time of 24:21.9 as she earned a medal as one of the top finishers on the day.
Jablonski was joined in the Empire 8 Weekly Awards on Monday by
Macy Youngberg (Falconer, NY/Falconer Central), earning Women's Tennis Player of the Week.
The Saxon cross country teams will next travel to SUNY Geneseo on Saturday, October 1. They then get one last race in at Houghton University before the Empire 8 Cross Country Championships at the end of October, also hosted by Houghton.
