ERIE, PA – The Alfred University men's cross country team was back in action for its second meet of the season, finishing third at the Behrend Invitational hosted by Penn State Behrend on Friday evening.
The Saxons were led by
Max Rasilla (Moraga, CA/Midland) as he finished 14
th overall with a time of 29:21.7. He led the five scoring runners to a cumulative time of 2:34:00.1, keeping in pace with last season's veteran team on the hilly course. "A new generation is rising to the challenge to fill the void left by the Saxons who graduated in May," graduate
Anthony Brandl (Akron, NY/Akron) said.
"The men ran the same time as last year's team," Head Coach
Matt Phillips '10 said. "The fact that most of those runners from last year are gone and we have a young team for this year, it shows that we have laid the groundwork for continued growth in the program."
Yuner Sesmas (Apollo, PA/Kiski Area) was close behind, five places back with a time of 30:13.8 with
George Mecca (Derby, NY/Eden) following in 20
th place with a time of 30:37.7.
Kevin Flint (Caledonia, NY/Caledonia-Mumford) ran a time of 30:52.4 for 21
st place as
Finnegan Dean (Potsdam, NY/Potsdam Central) closed out the scoring efforts with a time of 32:54.7.
Nick Erickson (Falconer, NY/Falconer Central) and
Connor Kerr (Tioga, PA/Williamson) also competed on Friday evening, finishing 30
th (33:58.8) and 32
nd (36:22.4), respectively.
The Saxons will next have a few weeks off to train as they look to compete at SUNY Geneseo on Saturday, October 1.
