BROCKPORT, NY – The Alfred University men's cross country team finished seventh out of the nine collegiate teams competing in the SUNY Brockport Tom Balon Alumni Classic 5K on Saturday morning.
The Saxons were led by Jacob Taylor (Cohocton, NY/Avoca) as he finished 20
th with a time of 16:45.9. Seth Stevens (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) was next to cross the finish line, earning 42 team points with a time of 17:48.0. Newcomer
Celton Dupuis (Port Kent, NY/AuSable Valley Central) followed with 54 points and a time of 18:24.7.
Ben Klee (Elmira, NY/Elmira) and Damian Brown (Homer, NY/Homer) rounded out the five scoring places for the Saxons. Klee scored 60 team points with a time of 19:12.2 while Brown was close behind with 62 points, finishing with a time of 19:19.9.
The Saxons scored 238 points overall (counting the Brockport Alumni team). They defeated Alfred State College's 243 points and NCAA Division II D'Youville and their 267 points.
"Today was a great rust-buster for the team where our focus was on honing our routine, mental strength and race strategy," Assistant Head Coach Gabriel Trimbur said. "We had some fantastic performances from newcomers that bolstered our overall team confidence and both teams are demonstrating their dedication to the long term goals we've established. We're ready to do it again soon!"
Alfred University will next return to the Rochester area, running in the Harry F. Anderson Invitational, hosted by Roberts Wesleyan University on Saturday, September 26 at 12:00pm.
