ROCHESTER, NY -- The Alfred University men's cross country team ran at the Harry F. Anderson Invitational hosted by Roberts Wesleyan University on Saturday morning, finishing 16th out of the 18 total teams competing.
"Both squads executed their race plans to great success," Head Coach
Matt Phillips '10 said. "The men's team time was three minutes faster with their average time being 37 seconds faster than last time on this course. Our fourth and fifth runners today (Evan and Damian) helped us close strong."
The top finisher for the Saxons was
Seth Stevens (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) who ran a 27:37.6 to score 71 team points.
Celton Dupuis (Port Kent, NY/AuSable Valley Central) followed with a 28:08.3 with
Jacob Taylor (Cohocton, NY/Avoca) right behind with a 28:09.7.
Evan Foran (Vestal, NY/Vestal) and
Damian Brown (Homer, NY/Homer) closed out the scoring efforts as both were sub-30. Foran ran a 29:29.0 and Brown crossed the finish line with a 29.56.1.
"The teams had a spread of 2:18 for the men and 2:20 for the women," Coach Phillips said. "Happy to be under three minutes at this point in the season. Very good day today!"
The Saxons will next compete in the Kara Hall Memorial Invitational on Friday, October 2 at 12:00pm hosted by Fredonia. The course is also the location of this year's NCAA Division III Niagara Regional Championships as well as the designated Alfred Cup matchup against Alfred State College.
