ALFRED, NY - Three goals in the second half for the Alfred University men's soccer team resulted in a 3-1 win over Buffalo State College on Tuesday night from Yunevich Stadium.
The Saxons (2-2-1, 0-0 Empire 8) finished the game with 12 shots, four of which were on goal. Defensively, AU successfully defended nine kicks from the Bengals (1-2-2, 0-0 SUNYAC).
Chase Freeland (Hornell, NY/Hornell) finished with one goal across a team-high four shots.
Joaquin Ghioldi-Acosta (Los Angeles, CA/The Waverly School) scored once from three shots.
Daniel Koenig (Hopewell Junction, NY/John Jay) finished with four saves in goal for the Saxons.

Both defenses stood their grounds in the first half, as the Saxons faced four corner kick attempts from the Bengals. Both Freeland and Ghioldi-Acosta attempted shots before Alfred University entered halftime with a scoreless draw. To open the second half, a free kick from 50 yards out from

Christian Moon (Syracuse, NY/East Syracuse Minoa) for the header that found its way to the back of the net, as the Saxons took a 1-0 lead. After consecutive saves from Koenig, AU brought the ball down the left side before
William Moore (Stormville, NY/John Jay) set up Freeland for a goal, giving the Saxons a 2-0 advantage. A penalty kick for Buffalo State in the 66th minute cut their deficit in half. Alfred University retaliated with a goal from Ghioldi-Acosta that was blasted from 25 yards out to the right side. Buffalo State attempted three more shots before the final horn blew with AU holding on for the victory.
"We have a quick turnaround tomorrow playing SUNY Geneseo in another difficult challenge," Blake said. "The Saxons are golden!"
Alfred University will next host SUNY Geneseo on Wednesday night with the match slated to begin at 7:00 PM.
