Saxons Play to 1-1 Draw With Bryant & Stratton in Day One of Bryan Karl Tournament

ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University men's soccer team opened up its Bryan Karl Tournament with a 1-1 tie to non-NCAA opponent, Bryant & Stratton College (Rochester) on Saturday evening from Yunevich Stadium.

The Saxons (1-1-1, 0-0 Empire 8) struck first within the first 12 minutes of the matchup. Joaquin Ghioldi-Acosta (Los Angeles, CA/Waverly School) passed left to a waiting Noam Sokolovsky (East Lyme, CT/East Lyme) who received it in the middle of the pitch, pushed forward five yards and drained the shot from 35 yards out into the back right corner of the net.

"A good effort today where we created a lot of good chances. Unfortunate not to finish those, the creation is promising however we are not happy with just getting a draw," Head Coach Tracy Blake said. "Happy with the physical battle and one lapse of defensive awareness caused the goal. Great shot by Noam to get us ahead. Good test ahead of us tomorrow in the second leg of the Bryan Karl tournament versus PSH. Outstanding work by AJ, Gholdi and Noam."

The Bobcats (1-0-3) tied the match 36 minutes into play as Keigan Young put a pass right and back to Josue Fontanez who scored just out of reach of the Saxon keep.

AU outshot BSC 16-8 on the evening, going 9-5 in the first half and 7-3 in the second. Bryant's only shot on goal was the scorer whereas AU put eight shots on target. Both teams were somewhat even on infractions, both totaling two yellow cards and Bryant & Strattan committing 16 fouls compared to AU's 12. Corner kick opportunities were sparse as the Saxons had five opportunities and the Bobcats only had two.

Justin Eaton (Williamson, NY/Williamson) came off the bench for the second half and ended up leading the game in shots on goal and shots, putting 3-of-4 on target.

The Saxons will then take on Penn State Harrisburg on Sunday, September 11 at 1:30pm to close out the Bryan Karl Tournament.
