Men's Lacrosse Celebrates Regular Season Finale With 18-2 Win Over Keuka

ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University men's lacrosse team kicked off the beginning of Hot Dog Weekend with an 18-2 victory over Keuka College on Saturday afternoon from a fully-packed Yunevich Stadium.

The Saxons (10-4, 4-2 Empire 8) secured their 10th victory of the season, marking their most wins since the 2016 season. Alfred University has also recorded seven victories at home this season for the first time since the 2015 campaign.

Kevin Matson (Chenango Bridge, NY/Chenango Forks) stuffed the box score with three goals, three caused turnovers, and two ground balls. Adrian Romero (Rochester, NY/Greece Arcadia) scored three times across a team-high seven shots. Paul Forte (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) totaled three points from two goals and one assist.

"These guys have been working hard all week and have not let up," Head Coach Jason Lockner said. "I am very proud of their efforts today, especially with our attack."

The Saxons set the tone early in the first quarter after Justin Mosher (Hilton, NY/Hilton) dished an assist to Matson within the first minute of action. Dawson Felenchak (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) quickly followed with a goal of his own. Keuka scored once before goals from Drew Cartwright (Elmira, NY/Elmira), Connor DiDomineck (Bath, NY/Haverling), Cam Kenefick (Corning, NY/Corning-Painted Post), and Matson gave AU a 6-1 lead entering the second quarter. An assist from Forte to Matson opened scoring for the Saxons in the early moments of the second quarter. Forte scored twice more in the second quarter, while Cartwright scored once before Alfred University went into halftime with an 11-1 lead.

The Saxons relied on their depth in the second half, as goals from Joey Carra III (Webster, NY, Webster Schroeder), Josh Hauman (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder), Jonathan Kay (Webster Schroeder), and Romero gave Alfred a 15-2 lead going into the fourth quarter. Alfred distanced their lead in the fourth quarter thanks to goals from Felenchak, Kay, and Romero to secure the victory.

"We will take our 10-win regular season and push as hard as we can to win on Wednesday," Lockner said. "Our defense is playing very well as a team right now. Quinn Sullivan stepped up in goal today."

Alfred University will next travel to play Nazareth College on Wednesday as part of the Empire 8 Tournament Semi-Finals.
