ROCHESTER, NY – The Alfred University men's lacrosse team was knocked out of the Empire 8 Men's Lacrosse Championship Tournament on Wednesday evening as the No. 3 Saxons (11-4, 4-2 Empire 8) were eliminated by the No. 2 Golden Flyers (9-7, 5-1 Empire 8) of Nazareth College.
Josh Hauman (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) scored the first Saxon goal on Wednesday, finding the back of the net at 10:05 in the second quarter, ending the Golden Flyers' seven-goal scoring streak that began in the first quarter, less than four minutes into the opening face-off.
Scott Kimiecik (Randolph, NJ/Randolph) made 10 of his 13 saves in the first half after facing 38 total shots in the first two quarters.
The Golden Flyers held a 15-1 lead going into halftime and opened up the third quarter with a pair of goals before
Paul Forte (Greece, NY/Greece Athena) scored the Saxons' second goal at 12:13 in the period.
Nazareth responded with 10 goals in a row, closing out the third quarter and opening the fourth before
Noah Soriano (Valley Cottage, NY/Nyack) scored the last goal of the game with one second remaining, making the final score, 27-3.
Caleb DuBois (East Aurora, NY/East Aurora) led the Saxons on the face-off dot, winning five starts. Forte picked up the most ground balls for AU with three while leading in shots, with five and shots on goal with three, along with Soriano. Kimiecik was credited with two caused turnovers as a team-high.
The Saxons end their season with the most overall wins since the 2015 season who won 13.
