ALFRED, NY –
Mya Wells (San Ramon, CA/California) was named one half of the Empire 8 Softball Players of the Week in an official announcement by Associate Commissioner,
Joe Venniro on Monday.
She shared the honor with
Allie Klonowski of St. John Fisher College who batted .579, going 11-for-19 with three doubles, three home runs, seven RBI and seven runs.
Wells helped the Saxons to a 4-0 Empire 8 week as she batted an incredible, .615 average, getting eight hits on 13 at-bats, including a perfect, 4-for-4 in game one against Elmira College with four RBI and four runs with two doubles and one home run. She didn't strike out once during the week as three of her hits were doubles and two were home runs. Wells scored seven runs and batted in eight runs on the week. She was 3-for-4 on stolen bases on the week. Defensively, Wells was perfect at first-base with 15 putouts and two assists with no errors.
Wells was joined on Monday by
Neil Peters (The Bronx, NY/DeWitt Clinton) as he was the Empire 8 Men's Track Athlete of the Week for the Saxons.
Her and the Saxons will next travel to Penn State Behrend on Tuesday, April 26 with the non-conference double-header starting at 3:00pm.
