Box Score HILTON HEAD, SC – Consistent scoring efforts from the Alfred University women's lacrosse team resulted in a 21-19 win over SUNY Potsdam on Monday morning.
The Saxons (2-0) re-broke the previous scoring record they set during the season opener against Wells College on March 2. The victory against the Bears (0-1) marks the first season in which AU has started the season with a 2-0 record since the 2013 campaign.
"Our Spring Break trip has been amazing so far," Head Coach
Johanna McCormick said. "We are capitalizing on the warm weather. We have already gotten a few practices in. We had perfect weather conditions for a game today. The team worked extremely hard for the win. Every action taken on the field was important, as these actions created the second win of the season."
The Saxons were led by
Brenna Turner (Bentonville, AR/Bentonville), who scored 11 goals to go with three assists.
Amelia Booth (Staatsburg, NY/FDR) stuffed the box score with five goals, four assists, and a team-high 14 draw controls.
Abigail Call (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) and
Madeline Shaw (Williamsville, NY/Sacred Heart Academy) each finished with two goals and one assist.
Shaelyn McClaughry (Somerville, NJ/Somerville) recorded one goal and one assist.
Alyssa Piechota (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) ended the game with 17 saves.
"Our team will continue to maintain a growth mindset and work hard this week to prepare for Grove City," McCormick said.
Alfred University will next return home and host Grove City College on March 15 at 4:00 PM.
