New England opened scoring at the 13:01 mark of the first quarter, but Alfred University responded with consecutive goals by Matson moments later to take the early advantage. An assist from Matson to Forte extended the lead for AU, 3-1. Additional goals from Forte and
Dawson Felenchak (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) had the Saxons leading 5-1 entering the second quarter.
The Pilgrims were the first to get on the board in the second quarter, but an assist from
Justin Mosher (Hilton, NY/Hilton) to
Drew Cartwright (Elmira, NY/Elmira) gave Alfred a 5-2 lead with seven minutes remaining in the first half. A goal from
Noah Soriano (Valley Cottage, NY/Nyack) was followed by an additional goal from Cartwright, as the Saxons held a 7-2 lead. New England scored once more before Cartwright found his third goal of the game, giving AU an 8-3 advantage. The Pilgrims scored in the closing seconds of the first half, but the Saxons still entered halftime with a 9-4 lead.

Caleb DuBois (East Aurora, NY/East Aurora) retaliated with his first goal of the game. Goals from Forte and Romero distanced the lead, as the Saxons secured the victory.
"We need to clean up our face-off violations and pressure better on defense," Lockner said. "We cleared very well today and all our goalies played well."
Alfred University will next return home to host Penn College on Wednesday at 5:00 PM.
