Second Half Sends Brockport Past Men's Lacrosse, 9-4

ALFRED, NY – Eight goals in the second half from SUNY Brockport resulted in a 9-4 loss for the Alfred University men's lacrosse team on Tuesday evening from Yunevich Stadium.

The Saxons (6-2) finished 21-of-23 in clear attempts, while forcing the Golden Eagles (6-2) to 15 turnovers.

Josh Hauman (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) scored a team-high two goals for the Saxons across four shots on goal. Drew Cartwright (Elmira, NY/Elmira) and Kevin Matson (Chenango Bridge, NY/Chenango Forks) each finished with one goal. Scott Kimiecik (Randolph, NJ/Randolph) totaled 14 saves for AU.

"We did not shoot well today and that proved to be the difference, especially in our man-up unit," Head Coach Jason Lockner said. "Our attack unit is a little banged up, but that's not an excuse."

After a scoreless first quarter from both sides, an assist from Dawson Felenchak (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) to Hauman opened scoring for Alfred University. Shane Cubala (River Vale, NJ/Pascack Valley) recorded his first collegiate assist to Cartwright moments later. The Saxons extended their lead thanks to an assist from Justin Mosher (Hilton, NY/Hilton) to Matson. The Golden Eagles scored once before the break, but AU was still in control, 3-1.

Brockport quickly tied the game in the third quarter, scoring two unanswered goals. An additional goal from the Golden Eagles had the Saxons trailing 4-3 entering the fourth quarter. Two early goals in the fourth quarter from Brockport had AU behind, 6-4. Mosher tallied his second assist of the game after finding an opening to Hauman. The Golden Eagles answered with three goals of their own to extend their lead and secure the win.

"We need to have better execution in our shooting and man-up in preparation for the Empire 8," Lockner said. "The guys play hard from start to finish, Caleb DuBois being a prime example."

Alfred University will next open Empire 8 conference competition when they travel to face Russell Sage College on Saturday, April 9 at 1:00 PM.
