HOUGHTON, NY - Chase Freeland (Hornell, NY/Hornell) scored twice for the Alfred University men's soccer team in a 2-2 draw against Houghton University on Saturday evening. 

The Saxons (3-5-3, 1-2-2 Empire 8) finished with 13 shots, six of which were on goal. 

"A great brace from Chase to get us in a strong position to start the game," Assistant Coach Andrew Barnikel said. "We fell a bit short in locking it up for the full 90 minutes. We still control our fate in the Empire 8 table, so we will check out the film, evaluate, and come back stronger for Elmira at home on Wednesday. 

Alfred University was the first to get on the scoreboard, as Freeland scored in the 18th minute to put the Saxons ahead, 1-0. Houghton equalized the score moments later in the first half. The Saxons found another opportunity to take the lead, as Freeland put AU ahead, 2-1. Alfred University took three more shots before entering halftime with 2-1 advantage. The defense for AU rejected Houghton's next six shots in the second half before they found the back of the net in the 85th minute to tie the game again. The Saxons were credited with two more shots and a corner kick opportunity before the final horn, but could not score before the draw was declared. 

Alfred University will next host Elmira College on Wednesday with the first half scheduled to start at 4:00 PM
