Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Falls to Elmira, 2-0

ALFRED, NY - A competitive matchup for the Alfred University men's soccer team resulted in a 2-0 loss against Elmira College on Wednesday afternoon from Yunevich Stadium.

The Saxons (3-6-3, 1-3-2 Empire 8) finished with 13 shots, four of which were on goal. The Soaring Eagles (8-3-2, 2-2 Empire 8) were unsuccessful across their three corner kick attempts.

Chase Freeland (Hornell, NY/Hornell) ended the game with three shots with two being on goal. Christian Moon (Syracuse, NY/East Syracuse-Minoa) attempted three shots and had one on target. Jon Nadolne (Port Washington, NY/Albertson ECNL) picked up five saves for AU.

"Today was a tough loss at home," Head Coach Tracy Blake said. "We put ourselves in a very precarious position by allowing Elmira to work us in the second half."

The Saxons were aggressive in the opening moments of the first half, as they put across three shots within the first five minutes of action. Freeland was responsible for AU's first shot on goal during the 10th minute. The defense for Alfred University stood tall, rejecting Elmira's four shots in the first half to carry a scoreless draw into the break. In the second half, the Soaring Eagles drew a penalty kick that eventually found its way to the back of the net, as AU trailed 1-0. Elmira attempted three additional shots before scoring once again in the 80th minute to extend their lead, 2-0. Alfred University was held without a shot in the second half before the final horn sealed the game.

"We need to self-evaluate our movement on and off the ball and work a little smarter," Blake said. "We will be ready for Russell Sage on Saturday."

Alfred University will next travel to face Russell Sage College on Saturday with the first half scheduled to begin at 4:00 PM.
