ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University women's volleyball team fell to Keuka College, 3-0 on Friday night in the Terry S. Galanis Family Arena.
The Saxons (4-9, 1-3 Empire 8) came from behind but were edged in the first set, 25-23. The Wolves (5-11, 1-3 Empire 8) walked away with a second set win, 25-9. The third set mirrored the first as KC closed out the evening, 25-22.
Two Saxons tied for a match-high 10.0 points.
Jamie Chun (Hilo, HI/Hilo) had nine kills and one ace while
Casey Grange (Ithaca, NY/Ithaca) had nine kills and one solo block. Grange also had a match-high in digs with 13.
Darian Ortiz had a team-high 17 set assists and added 12 digs while
Jade K Wolfer (Nunda, NY/Keshequa) led the Saxon servers with two aces.
Kristin Finley (Kenyon, MN/Kenyon-Wanamingo) tied Grange for the most blocks with one solo stop as well.
The Saxons were down 12-2 in the first set before fighting back with a 16-6 run to tie the match, 18-18. They then took their first lead of the night at 21-20, upping it to 23-21 before Keuka closed out the set with four, unanswered points.
Although the third set ended in a close race to the 25
th point, AU opened the set up with an early lead before the Wolves took the lead, 8-7 and never relinquished control of it.
The Saxons will next host Utica University on Saturday, October 8 at 1:00pm in the Terry S. Galanis Family Arena, continuing E8 play.
