Men's Soccer Forces Draw With Nazareth

ALFRED, NY – A competitive conference matchup for the Alfred University men's soccer team resulted in a 1-1 draw against Nazareth College on Wednesday evening from Yunevich Stadium.

The Saxons (3-5-2, 1-2-1 Empire 8) finished with 12 shots, while successfully defending eight corner kicks from the Golden Flyers (5-3-2, 1-1-2 Empire 8).

Christian Moon (Syracuse, NY/East Syracuse-Minoa) scored his third goal of the season from two shots. Chase Freeland (Hornell, NY/Hornell) recorded his first collegiate assist while being credited with an additional three shots. Jon Nadolne (Port Washington, NY/Albertson ECNL) picked up four saves for AU.

"We didn't play up to our standards tonight, however, our commitment and desire to work hard for each other earned the Saxons a hard-fought point at home," Head Coach Tracy Blake said. "Matthew Wedzik played well in the center of midfield, while Jon, along with his defensive line, also had solid games."

The Saxons set the tone early with Freeland dishing an assist to Moon in the 3rd minute of action. The defense for Alfred University stood its ground in the first half, with a defensive save from Jaime Soria (Ossining, NY/Ossining) preventing the Golden Flyers from finding the back of the net in the 39th minute. The defense for the Saxons rejected four shots and three corner kicks from Nazareth in the first half before carrying a 1-0 lead into halftime. The Golden Flyers quickly equalized the score after a scramble for the ball in the 55th minute. The Saxons forced eight shots in the second half but couldn't take back the lead before the final horn.

"We will self-evaluate our game and be ready for the trip to Houghton on Saturday," Blake said.

Alfred University will next travel to Houghton University on Saturday with the first half slated to start at 5:00 PM.
