Men's Soccer Drops Away Contest to Medaille

BUFFALO, NY – The Alfred University men's soccer team came up short in a 3-0 loss to Medaille University on Saturday afternoon.

The Saxons (3-5-1, 1-2 Empire 8) faced 28 shots, 12 of which were on goal. The Mavericks (6-0-4, 1-0-2 Empire 8) forced six corner kick opportunities.

William Moore (Stormville, NY/John Jay) finished with a team-high four shots. Noam Sokolovsky (East Lyme, CT/East Lyme) ended the game with three shots, one of which was on goal. Jon Nadolne (Port Washington, NY/Albertson ECNL) picked up eight saves for AU.

"It was a very competitive game for us," Head Coach Tracy Blake said. "We are confident that we can turn it around on Wednesday. The loss of Ghioldi-Acosta was big for us in the game. Going down 1-0 right afterwards made it very hard for us. Our attitude is still positive as we move into the midweek game."

Each side remained patient in the opening minutes of the first half, as Sai Baraka (Rochester, NY/Bishop Kearney) put across the first shot on goal in the 11th minute. The defense for AU was successful in defending three corner kicks and nine shots in the first half before entering halftime with a scoreless draw. In the second half, the Mavericks quickly got themselves on the scoreboard following a penalty kick. Moments later, a series of impressive saves from Nadolne kept AU within reach. Medaille eventually scored two additional goals to extend the lead before the final horn.

Alfred University will next return home to host Nazareth College on Wednesday as part of their Saxon-For-Saxon gathering. The first half is scheduled to begin at 7:00 PM.
