ALFRED, NY – In a week where the Alfred University women's soccer team went 1-0-2 in non-conference action to open the 2021 season, the Saxon defense kept defensive pressure off of their keeper and that was in large part thanks to
Katline Cartwright (Le Roy, NY/Le Roy).
On Monday, in an official announcement by Associate Commissioner,
Joe Venniro, Cartwright joined Hartwick goalie,
Sara Staup as the Co-Defensive Players of the Week. Cartwright was also named the Saxon of the Week along with Alfred University football's
Jeremiah Young (Buffalo, NY/Canisius).
Cartwright anchored a defense as the center defender who had two shutouts in a week, going 1-0-2. Over the weekend she led a defense who only allowed seven shots on goal in two games. Cartwright was vital in preventing numerous dangerous goal-scoring opportunities from the opponents.
Cartwright and the Saxons will next head to SUNY Brockport on Wednesday, September 8 for a 4:00pm start before playing in their first home game on Saturday, September 11 at 6:00pm versus Kings College (PA).
