POTSDAM, NY- The Alfred University men's soccer team completed the Plattsburgh Cardinal Classic with a 1-1 draw versus SUNY Potsdam on Sunday afternoon.
The Saxons (0-1-2) finished with 15 shots, 11 of which were on goal. AU also earned five corner kick opportunities.
"It was really important that we bounced back from our performance the previous day," Head Coach
Tracy Blake said. "I believe we did just that. I'm very happy with the turnaround from our roster to close out the Plattsburgh Cardinal Classic."
Junior defender
Nathan Croscut-Miller (North East, PA/North East) picked up the lone goal for the Saxons. Junior defender
Noah Crawford (Lawrenceville, PA/Corning-Painted Post) forced a team-high three shots on goal. Sophomore goalkeeper
Daniel Koenig (Hopewell Junction, NY/John Jay) totaled a season-high 10 saves.
The AU offense remained aggressive in the opening half, putting across four shots in the first 30 minutes of action. A corner kick opportunity allowed sophomore defender
Samuel Halstead (Marion, NY/Marion) to find Croscut-Miller for the opening goal. The Saxons defended one shot on goal in the closing seconds before entering halftime with a 1-0 lead.
After only allowing three shots in the first 30 minutes of the second half, the Bears retaliated with a game-tying corner kick goal at the 82:19 mark. The Saxons defense held on in the final minutes to force overtime. Despite a combined three shots and two corner kick opportunities in overtime, Alfred University settled with the draw.
"I'm looking forward to the Bryan Karl Tournament after being away for three matches," Blake said. "We need the week off to heal from our previous injuries and make sure we are at full health ahead of this weekend."
The Saxons return home to prepare for the Bryan Karl Tournament on Saturday, beginning their play against D'Youville College at 12:30pm.
