HOUGHTON, NY- The Alfred University women's tennis team picked up their first win of the fall season with a 5-4 victory over Oswego State on Saturday.
"We needed this win today," Head Coach
Jordan Crouch said. "I'm happy that we finally got that monkey off our back and can head confidently into our remaining schedule."
The Saxons continued to play well from doubles, as junior
Isabelle Benoit (Bow, NH/Tilton School) and sophomore
Alex Rossen (Charlton, NY/The Darrow School) picked up the opening point in their 8-3 win over Jessica Dupont and Mattie Wallace from No. 3. Rossen later competed against Wallace from No. 6 in singles play, winning 10-6.
Senior
Lauren Boshart (Oswego, NY/Oswego) and first-year
Abigail Call (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) competed from No. 2, defeating Jenna Wilson and Debora Win, 8-3. Boshart continued to have success in singles play from the No. 3 spot, winning 10-2 over Dupont. The Saxons relied on Call to earn the match-clinching point from No. 4, as she won 10-1 against Wilson in convincing fashion.
"From here, I think we go back to the basics," Crouch said. "We need to make sure we're solid all around and ensure that we can continue on with the momentum that we got today."
Alfred University will travel to face SUNY Brockport on Thursday at 4pm.
