ROCHESTER, NY- The Alfred University men's soccer team struggled to find rhythm in their 3-0 loss to Nazareth College on Saturday from Golden Flyer Stadium.
"We didn't put together our best performance today," Head Coach
Tracy Blake said. "We didn't apply what we trained on during the week. We're very disappointed with how today's match played out."
First-year forward
Christian Moon (Syracuse, NY/East Syracuse Minoa) forced a team-high three shots for the Saxons (1-4-2), two of which were on goal. Senior defender
Seamus Doyle (Sea Cliff, NY/North Shore) and sophomore forward
Henry Smith (Manassas, VA) each finished with two shots on goal. Sophomore goalkeeper
Daniel Koenig (Hopewell Junction, NY/John Jay) totaled eight saves.
The offense for Alfred University was aggressive in the opening minutes, putting together two shots on goal across the first six minutes of action. A corner kick opportunity for Nazareth led to an opening to find the back of the net, placing the Saxons in an early deficit. AU rejected the Golden Flyers' next nine shots and four corner kicks to enter halftime down 1-0. Nazareth capitalized on their lead with two additional goals in the second half to prevent any chance at a late comeback for Alfred.
"Some of our players stepped up in the way we needed them to," Blake said. "Still, we carried too many players that didn't get the chance to shine today."
The Saxons will return home to host Fredonia on Tuesday at 7pm.
