GENESEO, NY - The Alfred University men's soccer team came up short in a 4-0 loss to SUNY Geneseo on Wednesday from Geneseo College Stadium.
The Saxons (1-3-2, 0-0-0 Empire 8) finished with 13 shots, four of which were on goal.
First-year goalkeeper
Steven Morrow (Dryden, NY/Dryden) made his first collegiate start for the Saxons, totaling seven saves. First-year forward
Christian Moon (Syracuse, NY/East Syracuse Minoa) compiled a team-high two shots on goal.
"Tonight was a good showing from our team," Head Coach
Tracy Blake said. "We tried out a few different things in hopes of preparing for our upcoming Empire 8 play."
The Knights made their presence felt early on, scoring at the 5:04 mark to grab the early lead. The Saxons nearly got on the scoreboard following a shot from senior forward
Kalum Holbrook (Atlanta, NY/Wayland-Cohocton) that glanced off the crossbar from 25 yards out. The AU defense cleaned up their play, successfully defending four corner kicks from Geneseo before halftime. The Knights tacked on three more goals in the second half to stifle any chance at a comeback from the Saxons.
"To this point, our team has competed well," Coach Blake said. "Even with the challenges we have faced regarding an injury-depleted roster, we're remaining prepared ahead of Saturday's matchup."
AU will open their Empire 8 play on the road against Nazareth on Saturday at 12pm.
