AU Athletics to Allow Limited Number of Fans at Outdoor Sporting Events

ALFRED, NY – Alfred University Athletics, in accordance to state, Empire 8 Conference, and Alfred University guidance, will allow a limited number of fans to attend outdoor events for the spring semester, beginning this Friday, April 2.

"We are very happy that New York State has provided these opportunities for our student-athlete's families, as well as our campus community, to cheer on our Saxons in person throughout the rest of the spring seasons for upcoming outdoor events in a safe manner," said Director of Athletics Paul Vecchio. "It's hopefully a further sign that we are moving towards normalcy at our athletic events in the near future and we can soon have our facilities packed again cheering on the Purple and Gold."

Excerpt from press release from Governor Cuomo's office released March 30, 2021: Small-scale college venues that host intercollegiate, intramural, or club sports can host spectators at either two fans per player, or the social gathering limit of 100 attendees indoors or 200 attendees outdoors. However, if the school or venue require all attendees to present proof of a recent negative test result or completed immunization prior to entry, capacity can increase up to 150 attendees indoors or 500 attendees outdoors. Maximum occupancy limit of 50 percent remains in effect, pursuant to the state guidance for sports and recreational activities.
