ALFRED, NY – First-year
Jamie Chun (Hilo, HI/Hilo) was named the Empire 8 Women's Volleyball Rookie of the Week on Tuesday afternoon in an announcement by Associate Commissioner,
Joe Venniro, becoming the second week in a row that a Saxon has earned that honor.
Â
Last week, fellow first-year
Honor Edmands (Reno, NV/Reno) earned the E8 Rookie of the Week award.
Â
Chun was a defensive workhorse as she recorded double-digit digs in all three of her matches last week while some of those were absolute frenzied dives. She established her collegiate career-high at 23 digs against Nazareth College.
Â
Then, on Sunday, had 12 digs in the first match against St. John Fisher and another 19 in the non-conference match with the Cardinals. The second match was a match-leading stat. Chun also recorded at least one ace in each of those matches including a new collegiate best and match-tying four aces in the second meeting with Fisher. Chun tacked on two set assists on the week.
Â
Chun joined Monday's listing of women's lacrosse's
Alyssa Piechota (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) as the Goalie of the Week, men's lacrosse's
Scott Kimiecik (Randolph, NJ/Randolph) also as the Goalie of the Week and softball's
Jessica Wilcox (Forestville, NY/Pine Valley) as the Pitcher of the Week.
Â
Chun and the Saxons will next travel to Albany, NY to face Russell Sage College on Saturday, April 2 at 2:00pm in Empire 8 action.
