ALFRED, NY – For the first time since the recording of Empire 8 Weekly Awards, first-year
Alyssa Piechota (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) became the first Alfred University women's lacrosse player to not only win an honor twice in a season, but also in back-to-back weeks as she was named the Goalie of the Week on Monday in an official announcement by Associate Commissioner,
Joe Venniro.
Â
Piechota was the Empire 8 Women's Lacrosse Goalie of the Week last Monday, March 22 as well after picking up her first collegiate win over Wells College.
Â
This past week, Piechota broke an Alfred University school record and tied another one in a loss to Sage College last week. Piechota broke the Alfred University school record for single game ground balls on the exact date it was set by
Leigh McKinly '99 on March 27, 1996. On the 25
th anniversary of the record (last of the longest standing single game records), Piechota surpassed Mckinly's 12 ground balls by picking up 13 of her own. Piechota also tied the school's single game saves record of 24 to now co-own it with
Shannon Gray '18 as she faced 46 shots on the day with 39 on goal. Piechota also caused a collegiate career-high of three turnovers on the day.
Â
Piechota was joined on Monday by men's lacrosse's
Scott Kimiecik (Randolph, NJ/Randolph) as the Men's Lacrosse Goalie of the Week and softball's
Jessica Wilcox (Forestville, NY/Pine Valley) as the Softball Pitcher of the Week.
Â
Piechota and the Saxons will next head to Utica College for an Empire 8 matchup on Saturday, April 3 at 1:00pm.
