Men's Tennis Opens Season With Loss at RIT

Box Score ROCHESTER, NY – The Alfred University men's tennis team opened the season with a 9-0 loss to RIT, in non-league action at the Mendon Tennis Complex Monday afternoon.

It's the first contest of the season for the Saxons (0-1). RIT improves to 2-1.

RIT lost only four games in doubles, sweeping all three points. The third doubles team of Sam Cohen (Brighton, NY/Brighton) and Wes Dennison (Almond, NY/Alfred-Almond) earned three points in an 8-3 loss to David Trimmer and Michael Peters.

In singles action, Isaac Little (Alfred, NY/Alfred-Almond) put up a battle at third singles, but fell in straight sets to Ethan Martin, 6-3, 6-4. At six singles, Dennison put up a major fight, nearly taking the first set in an eventual 7-6, 6-0 defeat by Trimmer.

"It was great to get back out and play again with our guys," said head coach Jordan Crouch. "It's been over a year since we played a men's match and I was excited to just play again today. We had a little pre-match jitters but we quickly recovered and battled with a tough RIT squad. Really proud of our younger guys for stepping up and contributing in this first match. We will be back in the lab to prepare for Bonaventure on Wednesday!"

The Saxons will make the short trip west to take on Division I St. Bonaventure on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
