ROCHESTER, NY – Senior
Cassondra Mark (Prattsbugh, NY/Prattsburgh Central) picked up a singles victory, leading the Alfred University Women's Tennis team in an 8-1 loss to St. John Fisher at the Mendon Racquet and Pool Club Friday afternoon.
The Saxons (0-4, 0-4 Empire 8) will wrap up the regular season against Hartwick and Houghton in a tri-match Saturday afternoon. Fisher (5-0, 5-0 Empire 8) remains undefeated on the season.
"I'm really proud of the team today," said head coach
Jordan Crouch. "We played really well against a very tough Fisher squad. There were some awesome points out there and Casey got a great win!"
That victory came at third singles, as Mark dispatched Natalie Eisenson in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3. In the other two singles matches, sophomore
Kailey Reyes (Dallas, TX/Trinity) fell to Valarie Morgans by a 6-3, 6-3 score. At the top singles spot, first year
Anna Gwozdz (South Wales, NY/Iroquois) fell to Kathryn Strait in straight sets, 6-0, 6-3.
In doubles, Strait and Mikayla Santulli defeated the AU duo of Reyes and Mark by an 8-4 score.
The Saxons will take on Houghton at 10 a.m., before finishing with Hartwick at 1 p.m., both at the Kerr-Pegula Athletic Complex.
