Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Saxons Offense Shines, Defeats Keuka 105-67

KEUKA PARK, NY - Stellar performances for the Alfred University men's basketball team resulted in a 105-67 victory over Keuka College on Wednesday at the KC Gymnasium.

Alfred improved to a 3-1 (3-1 Empire 8) overall record in the spring campaign. Keuka dropped their sixth consecutive game, falling to 0-6 (0-6 Empire 8) this season.

The Saxons were led by junior forward Brewster Marshall (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads), who finished with 23 points and eight rebounds. Sophomore guard Justin Phillips (Cleveland, OH/Shaker Heights) totaled 18 points and seven assists. Sophomore forward Darren Miller (Seneca Falls, NY/Mynderse) added 11 points and six boards, as Alfred shot .650 (39-of-60) from the field.

The Wolves relied on sophomore guard Devin Milton, who ended with 21 points and five steals. Sophomore guard Nana Oteng added 16 points, as Keuka shot .370 (20-of-54) from the field.

"We did a good job of sharing the ball tonight," Head Coach Russell Phillips said. "It was nice to get production from different players. We have to continue to build on the things we did well."

Five early points from sophomore forward Sam Erickson (Franklinville, NY/Ten Broeck Academy) resulted in an opening 11-2 run for the Saxons. 3-point shooting from Phillips and sophomore guard Adam Enders (Belfast, NY/Belfast) expanded the lead, as Alfred gained a 55-28 lead going into halftime.

The combined efforts of Marshall and sophomore guard Mike Schmidt (Olean, NY/Olean) resulted in nine of Alfred's first 11 points in the second half. After furthering their lead, the Saxons relied on 38 bench points in the final half to keep the game out of reach.

"Our focus on both sides of the ball was much better," Phillips said. "We need to continue to communicate constantly on the defensive end and take pride in getting stops."

The Saxons finish their four-game road trip against St. John Fisher on Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 1pm.
