ITHACA, NY – The Alfred University men's swimming & diving team finished sixth out of 10 teams on Sunday to close out the 10
th Annual Ithaca College Bomber Invitational.
The Saxons began the final day with a 19
th place finish from
Jordan Fixsen (Fairport, NY/Penfield) in the 1,650-yard freestyle with a time of 18:03.89. The next race was one of the top finishes of the day for AU as
Emiliano Terrazas (La Paz, Bolivia/Saint Andrew's) as he raced to a time of 53.43 in the 100-yard individual medley to earned third place out of the field of 31 swimmers.
Phillip Volaski (Poughquag, NY/Arlington) followed in the event as he placed eighth with a 56.26 along with
Justin Jarmer (Flagstaff, AZ/Northland Preparatory Academy) taking 14
th with a time of 57.10.
A few events later,
William LaMastus (Maumee, OH/Anthony Wayne) swam a 1:56.46 in the 200-yard backstroke to take fifth place. Volaski was right behind in 10
th place with a time of 1:58.98 making it the only event of the day for AU where there were two Top-10 finishes.
Nathan Sponenberg (Bloomsburg, PA/Central Columbia) also earned a Top-20 finish in the event as he swam a 2:06.59 for 19
th place.
Terrazas picked up yet another third place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:07.80.
Colin Schultz (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport), Jarmer and
Wade LaMastus (Maumee, OH/Anthony Wayne) took 18
th, 19
th and 20
th, respectively in the same event with times of 2:18.07, 2:18.47 and 2:18.87.
AU closed out the three-day meet with the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:14.63, good enough for eighth place with the team of
Fernando Lagos (Tegucigalpa, Honduras/Escuela e Instituo Lincoln), Alessandro Lagos Canales (Tegucigalpa, Honduras/Escuela e Instituo Lincoln), Will LaMastus and
Colby Watkins (New Orleans, LA/St. Martin's Episcopal).
The Saxons will next travel to Le Moyne College on Tuesday, January 11 for a 1:00pm meet start.
