ITHACA, NY – The Alfred University men's swimming & diving team found success during the first day of the Ithaca Invitational on Friday evening.
William LaMastus (Maumee, OH/Anthony Wayne) set the pace for the Saxons in the 500-yard freestyle with a team-best time of 4:58.57. In the 200-yard IM,
Phillip Volaski (Poughquag, NY/Arlington) finished in 16
th with a time of 2:03.58.
Colby Watkins (New Orleans, LA/St. Martin's Episcopal) led the efforts in the 50-yard freestyle, finishing in 24
th with a time of 22.19.
LaMastus and Watkins were joined by
Alessandro Lagos Canales (Teguicgalpa, Honduras/Escuela e Instituo Lincoln) and
Emiliano Terrazas (La Paz, Boliva/Saint Andrew's) in the 200-yard medley relay, as the Saxons came in 4
th with a time of 1:36.46.
"I thought we performed very well today," Head Coach
Brian Striker said. "I was pretty happy with how everything turned out. Overall, the results were better than expected. That being said, as a team, we have a lot of work to do over the next two days. I expect some good things, as our team is best suited, competitively, for the events in each of those three sessions."
The Saxons will next continue the Ithaca Invitational with events scheduled to begin at 10:00 AM.
