DELHI, NY – Efficient play from the Alfred University men's basketball team resulted in a 76-46 victory over SUNY Delhi on Saturday from the Floyd L. Maines Arena.
A total of 10 players scored for the Saxons (4-1) in the win. AU also held the Broncos (4-2) to 23.4 percent from the field.
Graduate guard
Cole Eells (Ithaca, NY/Ithaca) led the Saxons with a team-high 21 points to go with six rebounds and two assists. Senior forward
Brewster Marshall (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) finished with a double-double performance that consisted of 13 points and 14 boards. Junior forward

"I think our guys are getting more comfortable every day with what we're doing defensively," Head Coach
Erich Kaempffe said. "We did a nice job tonight on that end."
The offense for Alfred University found rhythm early, as Eells scored eight of the team's first 11 points across the opening seven minutes of the first half. Late shots from junior guard
Mike Schmidt (Olean, NY/Olean) had the Saxons leading by as many as 16 points before entering halftime with a 38-22 advantage. The Broncos crawled back to cut their deficit to 10 points in the second half at the 16:55 mark, but the Saxons offense strung together a 24-6 run to distance their lead and eventually secure the win.
"From here, we want to continue to get better across the board on both ends," Kaempffe said.
Alfred University will remain on the road to face SUNY Geneseo on Tuesday with tipoff scheduled for 6:00 PM.
