BRADFORD, PA – Competitive play from the Alfred University men's tennis team resulted in a 9-0 win over the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford on Wednesday from the Kessel Athletic Complex.
The Saxons (1-1, 0-0 Empire 8) earned their first point in doubles play from first-year
Michael Roberts and
Walker Waldon from No. 1, defeating Jermal Coleman and Waylan Jennette in 8-0 fashion. Junior
Wes Dennison (Almond, NY/Alfred-Almond) and senior
David Lingenfelter (Erie, PA/Harborcreek) performed well from No. 2, winning 8-2 against Luke Gratz and Felix Moronge. AU completed the sweep in doubles play thanks to first-year
Mark Brown (Olean, NY/Olean) and senior
Logan Cross (Olean, NY/Olean), as they defeated Christian Dixon and Patrick Tolerico from No. 1, 8-0.
Dennison carried the momentum for the Saxons into singles action from No. 4, sweeping Coleman in 6-0, 6-0 fashion. The clinching point for AU came from the play of Waldon, who defeated Gratz from No. 5, 6-0, 6-0. Roberts, Cross, Brown, and Lingenfelter each won their respective singles matchups to complete the sweep.
