BUFFALO, NY – Consistent scoring from Buffalo State College led to a 6-1 win over the Alfred University men's soccer team on Tuesday evening from Coyer Field.
The Saxons (2-7-2, 1-2-0 Empire 8) faced 28 shots, 17 of which were on goal.
Midfielder
Connor Scriven (Peoria, AZ/Liberty) scored his first collegiate goal with the Saxons. Goalkeepers
Robert Mann (Buffalo, NY/Frederick Law Olmsted) and
Daniel Koenig (Hopewell Junction, NY/John Jay) combined for 12 saves.
"We competed really well tonight, and the scoreboard really does not reflect the way we played," Head Coach
Tracy Blake said. "If we play with that commitment from now on, we will be successful in our Empire 8 play."
The Bengals placed early pressure on the Saxons, scoring just three minutes into the opening half. AU successfully defended four shots on goal and two corner kicks before Buffalo State extended their lead. The Saxons only surrendered two more shots on goal before entering halftime with a 2-0 deficit.
Alfred University faced four shots to open the second half of play before the Bengals found the back of the net. The Saxons responded with a goal of their own on a pass from forward
Christian Moon (Syracuse, NY/East Syracuse Minoa) to Scriven at the 65:21 mark. Three more late goals from Buffalo State erased any chance at a potential comeback.
The Saxons will remain on the road to face Elmira College in an Empire 8 matchup on Saturday at 12:00 PM.
