ONEONTA, NY – Late scoring from Hartwick College led to a 2-0 win over the Alfred University men's soccer team on Saturday afternoon from Elmore Field.
The Saxons (2-6-2, 1-2-1 Empire 8) defended a total of 12 corner kicks from the Hawks.
Defender
Gavin Harrington (Elmira, NY/Notre Dame) finished with one shot on goal. Goalkeeper
Steven Morrow (Dryden, NY/Dryden) totaled four saves.
"Injuries hurt us in the second half, but we didn't compete a well as the first," Head Coach
Tracy Blake said. "The key moving forward will involve a high level of belief and effort."
The AU defense stood tall in the opening half, rejecting five corner kicks from Hartwick. Neither side found the back of the net, leading to a scoreless halftime. The Hawks scored their opening goal early into the second half. The Saxons continued to play efficiently, but a second goal from Hartwick at the 76:56 mark distanced their lead and eventually sealed the match.
The Saxons will remain on the road to play Buffalo State on Tuesday at 7:00 PM.
