MISENHEIMER, N.C. – The Alfred University men's tennis team earned a doubles victory, but it wasn't enough as the Saxons dropped an 8-1 decision to Pfeiffer, held at the Knapp Tennis Center Monday afternoon.
The Saxons fall to 3-3 overall, while Pfeiffer improved to 6-3.
The lone doubles win came at the third slot, as the tandem of
Wes Dennison (Almond, NY/Alfred-Almond) and Matt Hibbert (Oswego, NY/Oswego) picked up a gritty 8-7 (4) victory against Braxton Harris and Thiago Machado. The Falcons won both doubles matches at Nos. 1 and 2, then swept the six singles matches to earn the team victory.
"Today was a good test of our men's program," said head coach
Jordan Crouch. "Pfeiffer is a great team and we're going to learn from this going forward!"
The Saxons will head to Fayetteville, N.C. for their next match, taking on Methodist University Wednesday at 2 p.m.
