ALBANY, NY – The Alfred University men's basketball team was at The Sage Colleges on Sunday afternoon to play the game against the Gators that was scheduled to be played on Friday evening but was postponed until today due to weather.
The Saxons (9-13, 3-8 Empire 8) trailed for a large portion of this was and struggled to get anything going during the second half on their way to the 73-47 loss to the Gators.
The teams played back and forth for the opening 10 minutes until a 10-2 run from Sage made it a 25-18 game at the 7:37 mark of the first half.
The Gators would maintain a seven-point lead heading into the halftime break.
After Sage quickly extended its lead in the opening minutes of the second half,
Sam Dagon (Hornell, NY / Hornell) made a three pointer with just over four minutes gone in the period to cut the deficit to just six points.
From that point, Sage went on a 15-1 run to go up by 20 points.
The Gators continued to extend its lead for the remainder of the game and went up by as many as 28 points toward the end of the half before coming away with the 26 point victory over the Saxons.
Cole Eells (Ithaca, NY / Ithaca) and Dagon accounted for the majority of the offense on the day for AU with 13 points each.
Brewster Marshall (Horseheads, NY / Horseheads) ended with five points and nine rebounds and also blocked three shots.
Alfred will look to turn things around next Friday as they return home to host Elmira College at 5:30PM.
