ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University men's basketball team hosted Elmira College on Friday in an Empire 8 matchup at Terry S. Galanis Family Arena.

The Saxons (10-13, 4-8 Empire 8) controlled this one from the tip and picked up the 72-55 victory over the Soaring Eagles.

After a close opening few minutes, AU worked out to a 26-14 lead with just under eight minutes to play in the first half.

A fast break layup by
Mason Goodridge (Springville, NY / Springville-Griffith) and a made free throw at the end of the half made it 34-21 in favor of Alfred at the break.

An early three from
Sam Dagon (Hornell, NY / Hornell) bumped the lead up to 20 points to begin the second half.

The Saxons maintained a healthy lead for the rest of the second half and cruised to the win over Elmira.
Â
Dagon led the scoring charge for Alfred with 24 points in just 25 minutes of play. He also grabbed a season high 10 rebounds.

Cole Eells (Ithaca, NY / Ithaca) added 20 points and forced four steals on the defensive end.

The Saxons will be back at home on Saturday to host Hartwick College at 2PM.
