BROCKPORT, NY – The Alfred University men's lacrosse team got its season under way on Wednesday with a road game at The College at Brockport.
The Saxons (0-1, 0-0 Empire 8) had difficulty getting the offense in gear in an 11-3 loss to the Golden Eagles.
As expected, it took time for both offenses to find the back of the net in the season opener but the Golden Eagles were first to strike with the lone goal of the first quarter at the 1:31 mark of the period.
The Saxons quickly evened things up though in the second quarter, as
Cale Donegan (Corning, NY / Corning-Painted Post) picked up where he left off a season ago with a goal assisted by
Paul Forte (Greece, NY / Greece Athena).
Brockport took over from that point and scored seven unanswered to end the half and go into the break leading AU by a score of 8-1.
The Golden Eagles notched one more in the third quarter and two in the fourth to go up 11-1 with 9:23 to play.
Forte scored a man-up goal at the 9:13 mark of the fourth followed by a late goal by
Zack Gibaud (Greece, NY / Greece Athena), assisted by
Connor DiDomineck (Bath, NY / Haverling), but the game was already out of reach.
Alfred will look to turn the ship in its home opener this Saturday as they host Medaille College at 3:30PM at Yunevich Stadium.
