Dennison Earns a Singles Win as Alfred Falls to Mount Aloysius

OLEAN, N.Y. – The Alfred University Men's Tennis team closed out the opening weekend of the spring season with an 8-1 loss to Mount Aloyisus, in non-conference action at the Olean YMCA Saturday afternoon.

The loss drops the Saxons to 2-2 overall, while Mount Aloyisus improves to 6-2, winning its fourth straight match.

Wes Dennison (Almond, N.Y./Alfred-Almond) picked up Alfred's lone victory of the match, earning the point in dominating fashion at fifth singles. Dennison set aside Mount Aloysius' Adam Tussey in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2.

The Mounties swept all of doubles and earned five singles wins to pick up the team victory. AU's Michael Ross (Rushville, N.Y./Marcus Whitman) fought valiantly at fourth singles, dropping a three-set thriller to Adam Snyder. Ross rallied after dropping the first set, taking the second with a 6-4 score. Snyder took control of the tiebreaker set, finishing with a 6-4, 4-6, 10-4 result.

"It was another hard-fought match today against Mount Aloysius," said head coach Jordan Crouch. "Lots of improved play today at home. Congratulations to Wes for a great win at fifth singles!"

The Saxons will play in one more match before Spring Break, traveling west to Erie, Pa. to take on Penn State-Behrend next Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
