ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University women's basketball team opened Empire 8 play on Friday evening at home as they hosted St. John Fisher College in Terry S. Galanis Family arena.

The Cardinals shot the lights out from the perimeter going 14-24 from behind the arc to take the Saxons (4-8, 0-1 Empire 8) down by a score of 75-43.

The Saxons were able to stay close after a low scoring first quarter that saw them down 13-10 after the first 10 minutes.

The Cardinals began to heat up from the perimeter in the second quarter as they made 4-5 from long range to outscore AU by 14 in the period and take a 39-22 lead into halftime.

The Saxons played the third quarter tight with Fisher but the game was far from close at that point.

The Cardinals tacked on four more long balls during the final quarter to run away with their seventh victory on the season.

Ana Ion (Bucharest, Romania / Episcopal of Jacksonville) was the lone Saxon to reach double figures in scoring with 10 points.

Bri Hicks (Burlington, VT / Ithaca) finished with eight points, eight rebounds and two steals on the evening while
Jamie Wilcox scored seven and had two assists.

Alfred will have a quick turnaround as they host Nazareth College tomorrow afternoon at 4PM.
