Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Saxons Fall to Chatham on Day Two of Tournament

ERIE, PA – The Alfred University men's soccer team took on Chatham University in the consolation game of the Penn State Behrend Tournament. The Saxons (0-2, 0-0 Empire 8) fell to Chatham on Sunday afternoon by a score of 3-0.

AU was able to hold the Cougars scoreless for the entirety of the second half, but had trouble keeping them off of the scoreboard in the first half and was unable to get its own offense in gear.

Chatham broke through on the scoreboard just over nine minutes into the game.

Another goal came at the 17:43 mark of the first half and then the third and final Cougar score came in the 34thminute.

Alfred began to tighten things up after that and kept it at a three-goal deficit heading into the halftime break.

In the early minutes of the second half a big save from Alfred goalkeeper Jon Nadolne (Port Washington, NY / Schreiber)off of a header attempt by Chatham, kept the Cougars off of the board.

Nadolne ended with six saves on the afternoon. He ended with four saves in the second half alone to assure that Chatham did not extend its lead but the Saxons were unable to spark a comeback against a tough Cougar Squad.

"Men's soccer lost a tough fought battle today. We played with fantastic spirit after going down a man and playing the last 60 minutes understaffed," Head Coach Tracy Blake said. "Unforced errors were again our downfall and we must erase these "gifts" to our opponents before the start of Empire 8 play. Never the less, there were several "best ever" games, including sophomore Gavin Harrington (Elmira, NY / Notre Dame) and first-year players Andrew Carrillo Macias (Reno, NV / North Valley) and Matthew Wedzik (North East, PA / North East). Senior Captain Evan Merkey (Webster, NY / Webster Schroeder) was named co-man of the match with Harrington by the team. Again many, many positives with the only negatives being injuries, suspensions and going 0-2 on the weekend."

Alfred will host the Bryan Karl Tournament next Saturday and Sunday at Yunevich Stadium. The Saxons will face-off with Cazenovia College on Saturday at 2PM and then Baruch College on Sunday at 12PM.
