UTICA, NY – The Alfred University men's tennis team (4-4, Empire 8 2-2) swept doubles and earned two quick wins at singles play in order to take their second Empire 8 win of the season over Utica on Friday evening.

All three doubles matches went down to the wire with sophomores
Logan Cross (Olean, NY/Olean) and
Ryan Brown (Olean, NY/Olean) taking #1 doubles 8-6, seniors
Peter Smock (Prattsburgh, NY/Prattsburgh) and
Kyle Kemper (Oswego, NY/Oswego) taking #2 doubles  8-6 and junior
Reeder Bruffey (Corning, NY/Corning-Painted Post) and sophomore
Adam Shearer (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) taking #3 doubles 8-7.

Smock won #1 singles 6-1, 6-4 while Cross took #2 singles 6-3, 7-5. Brown earned a set tiebreaker win at #3 singles 6-2, 3-6, 1-0 (6-2) before junior
John Papin (Rochester, NY/The Harley School) won at #5 singles 7-6, 6-0.
