ELMIRA, NY – The Alfred University men's tennis team (3-4, Empire 8 1-2) swept the Soaring Eagles 9-0 on the road Friday evening. The win marks the Saxons' first Empire 8 win of the season.

AU was in great shape following doubles play when sophomore
Ryan Brown (Olean, NY/Olean) paired up with sophomore
Logan Cross (Olean, NY/Olean) to take #1 doubles, 8-6. Seniors
Peter Smock (Prattsburgh, NY/Prattsburgh) and
Kyle Kemper (Oswego, NY/Oswego) took #2 doubles 8-3 while junior
Reeder Bruffey (Corning, NY/Corning Painted-Post) and sophomore
Adam Shearer (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) closed out at #3 doubles, 8-4.

Cross earned the fourth point for the Saxons when he took #2 singles, 6-3, 6-3. Kemper sealed the AU victory when he took #4 singles 6-1, 6-4. However, the Saxons were not done, taking the remaining matches with relative ease.

Brown won at #3 singles, 6-2, 6-4 while
John Papin (Rochester, NY/The Harley School) won #5 singles 6-4, 6-2. Bruffey won his team-high fourth match of the season at #6 singles 6-0, 6-1. The Soaring Eagles made the most noise at #1 singles, but Smock polished off the win 6-1, 4-6, 1-0 (10-6), earning AU's first sweep of the season.
